We were at the Royal Albert Hall River of Fire gig last May when Eliza stole the show (for us) with "The gold of your hair, the red of your cheeks, the blue of your eyes". Has she recorded this anywhere, and if not are there any plans....please...?

Hi - Not a comment on this excellent site but a request for help. I have a copy of "Tanz & Folkfest Rudolstatd 1992" which lists Martin and Swarb playing "A Question of Sport".
This, however, is not what it plays. The song starts "I am humanity cast in the flood" and the verse ends "they call me the great (M)azania" ? Any idea what the correct title of this track is? Regards
Reply: it is A Question of Sport. Written by Martin, recorded on Life and Limb

Hi Eliza,
Karen and I went to the gig on the Thekla last night. Sorry we didn't come and say hello - but we don't want you to think we're stalkers.
But anyway. We loved it. Loved it. Especially that son Exactly Two tears, or whatever it's called. Terrific band, by the way.
And at the end, when you said you were only going to do one more, I shouted out 'shame!' (you know, as you do) but it sounded like you thought I'd said 'hooray!'. or somesuch. But no, it was 'shame.' Anyway we loved the music. it was a revelation. Congratulations.

After driving a 400 odd mile round trip from Folkestone to Chittlehampton my psychologist thinks i'll never recover from the emotional shock of not seeing Martin perform.
Hehe Only joking Martin, don't feel bad mate! :) Just a note to say I hope Martin is feeling better and to add that Swarb certainly made up for it on his own. Get some more dates together you boys!! (preferably s/e kent would be nice???) Hope you are well, Stuart

I have a question for martin,my dad said that years ago you sang a song with 'others' (he doesn't know who) about a girl who was asked of anything she wanted and she asked to be able to fly. a surgeon later removed her wings but didnt want to. also on the record was a song about a giant. do you know what the songs are called or where I can get hold of them or the album?
thanks very much

I saw Waterson Carthy last year in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA--great gig. Are there any plans for them or Eliza (solo) to tour the USA again?
From Marc Chevallier 31/3/08
I had the pleasure of listening to Martin Carthy at the Sidmouth Folkweeks of 2006 & 2007. It reminded me of the first time I saw him in Manchester back in 1974.
Anyway, I was very impressed by the great quality of his guitar amplification. I'd like to know what his miking system is. I'm going to shop around for the amplification of my guitars and I really enjoyed the very natural sound of the system. Thanks a lot

Hello great people!
Just a short question: is there any album by Martin or Waterson:Carthy that contains "Scarborough Fair" by Martin? Or any MP3 to buy?
Thanks a million for your help, have a great time & take care,
Reply - Martin sings it on Wood, Wilson and Carthy. Not sure if you can find it on earlier ones

I've just heard the album For Pence And Spicy Ale for the first time(sorry it's a bit late lol). All the way through the album there was a big lump in my throat and I was reduced to tears at one point by the Malpas Wassail Song. Up until now my favourites have been and still are Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span, but this album by the Watersons goes to the top of my masterpiece list.
Thankyou very much Waterson's for giving it to us!.
A lump throated fan.
Your's in good health,
Steve Goff.
